Become a Volunteer

The Garden Route SPCA relies on the kindness of people who give their time to help animals. When you volunteer, you don’t just offer a few hours, you truly change lives. For the animals, it means love, comfort, safety and a second chance at happiness. For you, it brings joy, connection, new friendships and the knowledge that you’ve made the world kinder and more compassionate.

We have a strong and dedicated team of volunteers, each contributing in their own way. Some are hands-on with the animals, while others prefer to support through different tasks. Every role matters and every helping hand brings us closer to giving animals the futures they deserve.

But this work comes with challenges. With hundreds of animals in our care at any time, every act of support, whether big or small, helps us to keep going. Your time, energy and heart make it possible for us to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome. The animals of the Garden Route need us and we cannot be here for them without you.

Ways You Can Help

  • Walk dogs and spend time with them in the exercise runs, give them the chance to stretch their legs, learn good leash manners and enjoy human company.
  • Offer a gentle touch and socialisation for cats and kittens – help them build confidence so they’re ready for their forever homes.
  • Assist at fundraising events and markets – be part of the team that raises the money needed to keep our doors open.
  • Help with admin, reception, or behind-the-scenes support to keep things running smoothly so our inspectors and vets can focus on animals in need.
  • Share your professional skills from carpentry and gardening to IT or photography, whatever your talent, it can be put to good use for the animals.
  • Lend a hand with maintenance and general upkeep, fix, build, paint, or tidy to ensure our facilities stay safe and welcoming.
  • Join our community outreach drives to assist in spreading education, compassion and care in the communities we serve.
