Lost and found animals

If you’ve lost your pet — or found an animal wandering — contact the Garden Route SPCA immediately. As part of our service to the community, we manage the municipal pounds for George and Mossel Bay. This means all stray animals must be handed in to us and cannot legally be kept by the finder.

By law, stray animals are kept for 7 days while we do everything possible to reunite them with their families. After this period, they move into our adoption kennels, where we are grateful to be able to give them a second chance and every opportunity to find a loving new home.

Animals with identification — like a name tag or microchip — are reunited much more quickly. We strongly encourage owners to sterilise and microchip their animals: sterilisation reduces roaming, and microchipping provides the best chance of being reunited if your pet ever goes missing.
